Those symbols come from marlett.ttf font that wine provides. Please check that it's installed. Maybe another font is picked for some reason.
Does this happen with clean prefix too? (without installing corefonts etc)
the marlett.ttf is installed in /usr/share/wine/fonts as expected
I tried to restart from clean prefixes several times without sucess anyway I'll try to purge wine font and ms corefont
Please note that wine packages installed by playonlinux do not seem to be impacted (ex: wine 7x), so it is probably package or distro specific
I Confirm: I made, with playOnLinux, a clean "system wine version" prefix first without and then with fonts-wine installed: no difference On the opposite, when I use later specifically uploaded wine version (ex: 7x), the behaviour is correct
