Tried both patches, as per instructions. Results follow.

1st patch only:
Speeded up install generally but did NOT speed up one certain place where the
installation seemed to get stuck and hang for several minutes. So, this is not
a solution to the bug.

Both patches:
Program installed VERY fast. I'd say it's a success.
