still a bug in current wine?
I tested the demo with Wine 1.5.4.

First the demo crashes with
wine: Call from 0x7b839b32 to unimplemented function d3dx9_36.dll.D3DXComputeTangentFrameEx, aborting
After overriding d3dx9_36 to native the game still crashes, now with
wine: Call from 0x7bc4a8e0 to unimplemented function d3dx9_25.dll.D3DXMatrixMultiply, aborting
After 'winetricks d3dx9' the demo starts and runs fine without problems. For completeness, I could reproduce the originally reported problem with older Wine versions (1.1.35...1.3.25). I got the same odd colours as can be seen in comment #2 and comment #3. Wine 1.3.30 and newer already render the screen correctly on my system.
Tested with a Nvidia gfx card + binary driver 295.49.
