So, I tried to start a game and that worked. In other words the game thought Origin was running. I went over to my wine prefix, just to see what games I would lose if I re-installed Origin. I noticed the update marked the Origin folder in 'Program Files' read-only. The 'Origin Games' folder nor any other folder was modified. I reset it to write mode. Suddenly, the Origin client popped up on the screen.
Check the write permissions for Origin within the prefix.
