My system: AMD Athlon XP 2800+ 1GB RAM nVidia GeForce 7600GS AGP
kernel 2.6.26 Gentoo X server 1.5.3 nvidia driver 180.27
I run the game with Compiz enabled in Wine desktop window.
Maybe it is driver related and not Wine bug.
