The fix (63bf2677ed22d26ff1f5ff1886fde08b1f5fb00c) for this bug ended up
causing crashes on macOS Monterey and Ventura, and I created bug 54009 to track
that.

Also, I'm pushing my standalone test app to

with the preloader and layer-backed views.
