We are focused on XInput2 because that's how X.org is providing the needed relative motion events. In other words, there will probably be *no* fix provided for X versions below 1.8. If you want to help test these patches, the easiest way at the moment may be to install Ubuntu 10.04, which is the first distro that ships with X 1.8.
Speaking as someone running 10.04, isn't it the case that it's running X 1.7 with a lot of backported 1.8 features?
Also, up to date 10.04 currently thinks I have $ X -version
X.Org X Server 1.7.6 Release Date: 2010-03-17 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
Is there an update I missed somewhere, or is this sufficient for testing patches from this bug?
