I also have this issue. It only appears black when there is a city/settler in view. If I can scroll to an area where there is no city, I can see the map/terrain fine. However, once lots of cities are built I can not really see anything and the game becomes very difficult to play.
I avoided the problem using Lutris with wine 1.9.20-x86_64 (that version is built-in to Lutris). Terrain is OK now.
However, the keys do not always work normally when starting a game in Lutris. Up and Down, Ctrl + L, etc. But on the tenth launch, they work, and then you can play for several hours. So far this solution is working.
