Looks like a duplicate of #8854.
It is still an issue in current git (1.3.5)
I think this is a dupe. I use KDE and I am able to press alt+f2 and the command killall Morrowind.exe to restore my desktop. Hence it's only the game that is stuck, not the entire desktop.
