We could also perhaps add a registry setting to give the option to force the old behavior on all applications, but it is not how Windows behaves and it can break some other applications.
Not exactly "force the old Wine behavior", but Windows has AppCompatFlags\Layers registry key to control app compatibility behavior (including GDI scaling).
Couldn't we put a checkbox in Wine's graphic configurations to enable and disable, so if one chooses whether to see badly or well?
