I also use KDE. It can be, that Ubuntu uses (guessing) modified Wine (non-vanilla). Can you try to build wine-1.7.29 from sources?
There is a ppa with daily builds. Can I use this? https://launchpad.net/~pipelight/+archive/ubuntu/daily
