You can test this, e.g., in Bulk Rename Utility (
https://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Download.php ; there is a portable version:
https://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Download.php#DownloadPortable ).

In the latest screenshot, you can see what happened when I copied the text
"<HT>test<HT>abc" ("<HT>" == horizontal tab character) from the default Ubuntu
notepad into the indicated text field.

Just as in the case of the original (in-house) application, the horizontal tabs
are not rendered in the text field, yet are visible in the tooltip (i.e., the
field value includes them).
