Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't fixing this bug essentially involve writing an entire new library that is compatible with the MFC and Wine?
Essentially; and since mfc isn't documented, it would be an enormous effort that is unlikely to happen. See bug 657 for more details.
This bug is a placeholder / to advertise the workaround.
