Revisiting with a fresh install of 7.22 (non-staging) and a fresh prefix of the
demo. Running "CP.EXE" from the command line of the demo version doesn't
display the error anymore.

It does require a "winetricks corefonts" to work on the prefix though.

For me this can be closed. Thanks for all your help.
