I'd be glad to help you through the process of compiling Wine, it shouldn't
take nearly as long as that.

If 'make install' is buggy, please do file a bug report so we can fix it. I
don't know why that would be the case, though, we're not doing anything
unusual. Note also though that you don't have to install Wine once built; you
can just run it from the build directory.
