--- Comment #4 from barret@markmcb.com 2010-02-07 14:54:47 --- Okay - I found an old sound blaster card and tried using that instead of the onboard sound, and that fixed the problem. For whatever reason, there is probably a driver issue with the onboard sound, such that certain operations fail.
For others having similar issues, my mobo is an Asus M4A77TD-Pro, the sound device is a VT1708S, HDA-Intel - HDA ATI SB. I tried both the HD setting and the AC97 setting in the BIOS (and neither worked). If anyone else runs into weird problems like this, look into the onboard sound.
