It would be nice if you also fix .NET 2.0 SP2 installer that way. The registry race is also present in SP2 recipe (leads to similar crash), needs wineserver -k after winver_2k. Additionally enable silent/unattended mode and handle returned errors same way (105, ..)
While you're at it, .NET 2.0 SP1 should be a dependency of the .NET 3.5 installer. Even though the latter installer includes the former we can't support it like that because .NET 2.0 SP1 needs win2k and .NET 3.5 (or actually the .NET 3.0 SP1 installer also included) wants winxp or higher.
