--- Comment #6 from hawkdragon@gmail.com 2012-12-23 00:40:10 CST --- Having the same issue. The error that is thrown appears to be nearly identical to the one odnetnininds had save that I was attempting to run a different game. Several different games, in fact. One of them (Pokemon Essentials) should be downloadable here: http://depositfiles.com/files/lungrtywr . It's a kit rather than just a game, but if you try to run the included Game.exe demo, it should throw the same error before it starts properly. The other games I tried were downloaded years ago, but I do know that they used to run well enough on older versions of Wine and crashing wasn't a problem until I tried again recently.
There is an .rgssad file in the folder of the games I've tried, yes, though I've never seen any messages about "Failing to load" as the possible duplicate bug describes—only a notice that Game.exe needs to close and an error just like the attached. Thing is, after reading that closed bug my understanding is that the patch made its way into Wine proper, meaning it should be present in 1.5.20, yes? My main computer runs Wine 1.4.1, but I installed 1.5.20 on a different machine just to test it and every game I try still throws the same error. If I'm wrong about the fix already being in 1.5.20, though, I'm willing to give the patch a try just to be sure (though I'll need to look into how to apply it since I'm fairly new at this stuff).
Let me know if there's other information I can provide and I'll do my best.
