It's fixed.

The combination of Stefan's and Henri's patches did the trick.

Still no keyboard, but that's for a new bug. For now ,maybe I can get this to
work using WineD3D on Windows in a virtual machine :-)

Thanks so much for your perseverance. Now I can (hopefully, if VirtualBox isn't
going to be difficult) indulge in some nostalgia :-)
