I have also encountered this bug, on both Ubuntu 19.10 and 19.04. The program seems to install and run fine except when trying to access the "Settings" page or when any tab closes. My wine version is reported as "wine-4.0.2 (Ubuntu 4.0.2-1)", and the error shown in the terminal when the software crashes is "X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) Major opcode of failed request: 1 (X_CreateWindow) Serial number of failed request: 828"
This crash is repeatable (though the serial number is different, naturally) and immediate, and the software doesn't crash in this way on a Windows 10 system.
Can you please test with a recent development release (specifically, 4.17 or later)? There's a chance that 22993aff9 may have fixed this.
I have installed the version of wine from the winehq-devel package for Ubuntu 19.10 following the instructions on the wiki. Wine reports its version as wine-4.19. The IMVU application seems to have some kind of hang that happens shortly after it is opened on that version, so it's not usable (the application becomes completely unresponsive with high CPU usage and stops redrawing its window). But, on one attempt, I was able to open the settings menu and it displayed correctly, though I wasn't able to test closing a tab or changing any settings before the program hung again. I think maybe one problem has been traded for another? :)
I'll attach the error output in the console, just in case it's useful, but I'm not sure it's related to this particular problem.
Also, I can confirm that the software works (mostly) correctly on Wine 2.21, for those who really need it to.
