--- Comment #18 from karnute karnute@gmail.com 2007-08-28 10:22:26 --- After the commit of your fix in comment #17 on 20 Aug (so it was included in wine 0.9.44), I have tried again the installation of the game ETQW-beta2 from the beginning, deleting ~/.wine and compiling again from git version. Now when the installation of ETQW-beta2 reaches the execution of vcredist_x86.exe it already pop-ups the error window about "cannot execute C:\windows\temp\vcredist_x86.exe", because the file was extracted into the subfolder C:\windows\temp\WZSE0.TMP" instead of "C:\windows\temp".
But now the difference is that, after executing manually vcredist_x86.exe, the installed game plays correctly WITHOUT copying the Manifest file recommended in the previous workaround. So it seems that the real problem can be in the installer that extracts the file in the wrong folder (or it tries to execute in the wrong one). Or maybe the installer expects to find vcredist_x86.exe in the current directory that must be in the path and wine has not included it, or something similar.
By the way, after executing vcredist_x86.exe the folder ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/winsxs is populated with a lot (75) folders with names "x86_Microsoft.VC80.ATL_*".
