Okay, I edited .wine/system.reg in vi and added these lines to the top.

[Hardware\Devicemap\SerialComm]
"Serial0"="COM1"

I ran rededit and the entry is there. Hypertrm can now see the port but I don't
think it is able to talk on the port yet.
