Well. It looks like this is an issue with the 6xxx and 7xxx series. With my
8600GTS it works fine. On the german ubuntu forum someone wrote, that he has
the same problem as in the 'example corruption' attachment. He uses a Nvidia
7600GT in SLI mode. 
My graphic card and driver:

OpenGL renderer string: GeForce 8600 GTS/PCI/SSE2/3DNOW!
OpenGL version string: 2.1.2 NVIDIA 180.25
