resolving here.

Interestingly OP made another appdb test report the day after this report was
opened, rated 'silver':

Error message:

Please configure the application to use double buffering (1 back buffer) if

I had to run "regedit" to work around this problem:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Wine/Direct3D →  OffscreenRenderingMode set to
backbuffer

The registry setting is not needed.
I get the same message with Wine 1.7.45 and the game works fine here.

So something else "magically" fixed it for OP, either Wine 1.7.20 -> 1.7.22 or
host graphics drivers update... whatever.
