People please keep this dirty hacks outside of bugzilla. And do not turn it into a forum for clueless people about how to compile Wine!
Now then. That's all fine, but look at it from a user's point of view. They may need a patch to make a game or other application work. It may be a hack but most people won't care if it let's them play a game without having to dual boot with Windows.
I'm happy to abide by any suggestions regarding hacks and advice. Where would you rather this information be posted and how draconian are you going to be? - for example, I can host a 'hack' and instructions on a different website, but are you going to complain if links are posted? I'm not getting at you, I want a logical, sensible approach to sharing information with people who simply want to get a game / program working. Whatever you suggest is what I'll do - I have no problem with authority.
One more thing though - the use of the term "clueless" is a bit unfortunate. We all have to learn sometime. That's a little elitist to people who are just starting out with Linux / wine and it's not a good attitude. My post was there to help people, so regardless of the result, my intention was good. I thought that was one of the motivations behind FOSS - encouraging community participation. Why discourage it?
