I used homebrew to apply the patch. Basically:
brew update
brew edit wine

and add the patch to the stable section:
patch do
  url
"https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=58590&action=diff&context=..."
  sha256 "1807717af49cf5a99ef18332b0a116e0f1590f4a0490165c48fa4698887c6882"
end

and then 
brew install wine
