This indeed fixes the issue for me, at an FPS cost of ~10% -- which is totally acceptable in my case. The game still seems to run more smoothly compared to running it with -nod3d9ex. Thanks for the hint!
Can anybody confirm? If so, this workaround could be worth mentioning in the HowTo section.
