Hardware is a good call. I compared my card against the required card from the
developers website and mine is about a year older… I guess that is what caused
the error.
Is there a way to list a cards DirectX capabilities within wine (some
diagnosis-tool maybe?).

I do not have windows, so I cannot cross-check.
