In any case, setting XLOCALEDIR didn't change the behaviour: I still get "err:keyboard:X11DRV_ToUnicodeEx Please report: no char for ...". This happens for the following env dirs:
export XLOCALEDIR=/emul/ia32-linux/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/locale
There exists no directory /emul/ia32-linux but the package "ia32-libs" has a directory /usr/lib32/X11/locale as verified by "dpkg -L ia32-libs | grep X11", hence I tried
export XLOCALEDIR=/usr/lib32/X11/locale and export XLOCALEDIR=/usr/lib32/X11/locale/common
but all didn't change anything. I'll try to dig more into the X11 keysym matching, but I'd be glad for any further pointers as well.
