shock2.exe run on i915, pressing ESC results in big trouble

using GIT snapshot + Alexander's hack
getting into game works as usual, I'm walking around a bit (to me it seems like
the status display in the middle of the screen is drawn OVER the vertical
lines, or not??) and then pressing ESC

@Roderick: That's the next thing I try :-)
