also, why are you using Nouveau?
Because it's free software, because it autodetects my card AND dualhead without my intervention, and because it just works.
it is unstable and only supports 2D at this time.
It's stable enough to be the default driver choose by some linux distributions, and in my experience I have longer uptimes with nouveau than I ever had with nvidia, even when I enable the 3D support on nouveau.
$ glxinfo | grep renderer OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on NV86
It's performance may be worse than nvidia on 3D, but I don't use 3D that much so I don't care.
Also, I can help finding bugs and testing patches for nouveau, but not for nvidia.
