Summary: game window disappears from window list, game keeps working somewhere Product: Wine Version: 1.1.8 Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: bogdanb+bugs.winehq.org@gmail.com
Hi!
My machine: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 4GB RAM, GeForce 9600GT/1GB RAM. Running Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid) for x86_64. I'm running Wine 1.1.8, compiled by yours truly with the patches bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=17157 and bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=17130 --- and I'm running Fallout3 with it.
I got everything working decently, using the instructions from http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=14322 (see my comments there as bogdanb). I get occasional crashes, but I don't notice any error output related to them.
I was surprised to see Compiz almost works with it: I can start the game in full-screen, then I can twist the desktop cube, cover-flip applications, activate expo, transparency, and it actually works, with the Fallout3 window updating and everything.
When I switch windows I can see an entry for a "Fallout3" window in the the task-bar (complete with a little pip-boy icon). However, if I keep doing whatever I'm doing (flipping between windows or desktops, and generally doing things outside the fallout window), at some point* the Fallout window disappears, both from the screen and from the window list (task-bar, alt-tab menu, cover-flip). I can hear the game sounds continuing, so it doesn't completely crash, it just goes hidden somewhere. But when it's working, the effects are totally crazy fun.
(*: I've written this entire report with the Fallout window (full screen) in the background, turned semi-transparent, and with the browser window above it, also transparent (and with blur enabled), and it keeps working, so it's very close to being perfect. The window only disappears when I play with window/desktop switching, but then it only takes a few flips.)
It would be very cool if we got this working correctly, so please let me know how I can help track down the bug.
