[Bug 22437] Internet Download Manager (IDM) can't connect to Internet

I noticed two problems when testing the Internet Download Manager program. The
first is that IDM tries to do a first-run connection test, but pressing the
check button in the test dialog just causes a looping series of dialogs to be
displayed, and the second is that a download queued in the main IDM GUI window
doesn't seem to be continuable. My inconclusive suspicion is that IDM installs
a Winsock layered service provider for its download manager functionality which
is breaking on Wine.
