Please keep your cool. Wine is in code freeze currently, and I talked with a couple of distro maintainers in order to get them to include henri's hack for wine-1.2 shipping. But yeah, for a couple of weeks, it's compiling will be necessary.

While it's true that wine is currently broken for this particular game, it's also noteworthy that this patch is what you described (a hack) and there's a reason it's not been accepted. It changes the order of operations in DLL initialization and this could easily break a lot of other applications.
It would not be a good idea to have distros shipping a patch that hasn't been regression tested as part of wine releases and misleading people into thinking apps that have been working fine were broken in 1.2 when in reality it was a workaround for WoW that broke them.
