[Bug 12744] Steam tray icon doesn't appear if panel hidden in autohide mode

I just checked out the latest git master, and can say that it works for me!

I now get a working icon (left- and right-click), even when my panel is hidden
when steam gets started.

The only problem i still have is the wrong background color (same as in my
previous screenshot). I am on Ubuntu Maverick right now, so if I understand
this right, I am still affected by bug 22487.
