Only reverting that one did solve the problem for one run of The Witcher, but trying it again afterwards again resulted in no sound. Running XIII also still resulted in the same problems (since I started from the --wrong-- assumption that c59ecdcef, I too quickly presumed my suspicion to be confirmed after one run of the Witcher went fine with this revision reverted). So it was probably a fluke.
I started a bisect, but the previous known good version (1.3.24) seems to be too old, because I'm getting other problems in between (with a.o. The Witcher crashing, and another game I added to the testing mix --Heroes of Might and Magic III-- showing graphics corruption).
I'll create and attach a dsound log from git HEAD tomorrow, and will also try to find a later bisect start revision.
