resolving 'INVALID' here. My comment #3 from 2018 is still spot on. That specific C++ exception from the installer is the result of failure to load/parse 'UiInfo.xml' via msxml3. Unfortunately Dan only posted the backtrace and not the full console output otherwise the failure to instantiate 'msxml3' inproc server would be visible.
It's very likely that Dan had broken msxml3/libxml2.
