Unfortunately no, it doesn't change things. I have also disabled dwrite due to the known steam issues with invisible text.
Basically the screen goes black as if it was starting, and then the wine "an error has occurred" message shows up with the crashdump.
As far as I can tell, everything is maximally updated, including steam and the game.
I asked you to disable gameoverlayrenderer because I also have the game on Steam and it indeed crashes on start when Steam overlay is enabled, but it starts properly if I disable gameoverlayrenderer. I'm on Linux (Fedora 21 32bits) btw.
