Also I would certainly be willing to test the grub line fix, however I'm not
sure where to add it in my distro (Arch Linux).  I have:
grub --version
grub (GNU GRUB 0.97)
I would think you could add it to /boot/grub/menu.lst like the framebuffer
options (VGA=###).
In the meantime I'll see if I can find out where to add this option in my
documentation.
