I applied the trick in comment 20 in this thread and it seems to have worked perfectly. I attached the patched DLL to this thread (see top of page) for convenience. On my machine, the file to replace was /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/wine/gdi32.dll.so. You can always run "cmp -l file1.so file2.so" to see the differences between the files if you don't trust me.
