I agree with the previous comments. As a Homebrew maintainer it would be great
if this could be merged in some form (or fixed in another) so we don't need to
rebase this patch indefinitely when the underlying code changes.

That's fine and understood. The main thing is at least then the patch won't
need continually applied and rebased by downstream package manager(s).
