not a regression.  It was intended as improvement: Earlier one used the CUPS
PDF printer that was listed among the actual printers BUT the MS print-to-file
option did not work.

now the entire 2003MSoffice has its "print to file" option activated, but in
the EXCEL print dialog one does not get any way to choose an output folder.
[and CUPS has disappeared from the printers list]
