Hey guys,
I went to Ubuntu 6.06, uninstalled wine 0.9.53 completely and reinstalled. Without doing any changes to winecfg (just looked without changing, windows version was set to Windows 2000) I installed Dic Michaelis; for my surprise, the application was still running smoothly... why that's a problem? because in Ubuntu 7.10, the same wine 0.9.53 version with the same configuration (windows 2000 etc) doesn't work! I tryed changing to window$ XP and Window$ 98 but the problem still continues.
I suppose the long hard work of regression testing has no use because the same version of wine has different behaviors in different (kernels?). Besides, it would not be possible determine what patch (if any) caused the regression, because I can't really know if the application ever worked fine in Ubuntu 7.10! Please give me directions. Tks.

Why are you compiling wine-0.9.23? You said the regression is from wine-0.9.53 Yes mostlikely you can't compile such an old Wine version and there is nothing we can do about it.
Please stick to the original problem. If you have some problems with installing this application on new Wine versions in your new distro version - open new bug.
As I said, on wine 0.9.53, under Ubuntu 7.10 kernel 2.6.22-14-generic THE PROBLEM IS PRESENT. Under Ubuntu 6.06 and wine 0.9.53 the problem was not present, however the application "Dic Michaelis" was installed on a very previous wine version. As I'm new to linux I can only imagine that the reason for the same wine 0.9.53 version works for Ubuntu 6.06 but not for Ubuntu 7.10 is that the application "Dic Michaelis" was installed under a previous wine version.
I'll try to test with an old but not so old wine version. I apologize if I didn't made myself clear.
