I tried the demo version (attached version) on Linux with 1.7.16, and only see the main menu screen with mouse pointer shown and moveable but nothing clickable.
Is it the same for you?
On my Mac the menu is responsive. Try setting the Windows 95 mode in Wine and change the system color mode to 16 bit.
