--- Comment #22 from Kai Blaschke webmaster@thw-theorie.de 2009-07-13 05:18:01 --- Here are the details of my box:
Running Gentoo Linux i686 (~x86 keyword, the "testing" branch) on an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 with 4 GB RAM and a GeForce 9600 GT with 1 GB of RAM. System memory is error-free according to memtest86+, other apps run stable. I've got two EVE accounts, and run both side by side on this machine.
Running EVE with Wine 1.1.23 or 1.1.24 works great, just some very rare partial crashes (a Wine crash windows shows up, tells me the App crashed, but EVE continues to run sometimes, but with some "missing" parts, e.g. no ship models and icons are rendered anymore) after a long play time. Upgrading to Wine 1.1.25 changes that, so EVE crashes after a few minutes of play, mostly when warping or undocking, but also just sitting at a station. Crashes happen at the same ratio, no matter if I run one or two instances of the game client.
Memory use by EVE is quite high (on Windows too), being a problem for all EVE players with low amounts of memory. My memory usage rarely raises above 3 GB, even with two clients.
