I printed your little test document. I also tested with a full page from the WordPro readme. No letter-clash problems, I have a HP deskjet 870, using CUPS.
Try an LED or laser printer using PCL5 language. You can print any document you want. Try something complicated.
The fonts involved seems to be the ms-core fonts. I presume you have those installed?
ls -aF /usr/share/fonts/msttcorefonts ./ ariblk.ttf fonts.dir tahoma.ttf trebucit.ttf ../ comicbd.ttf fonts.scale timesbd.ttf trebuc.ttf andalemo.ttf comic.ttf georgiab.ttf timesbi.ttf verdanab.ttf arialbd.ttf courbd.ttf georgiai.ttf timesi.ttf verdanai.ttf arialbi.ttf courbi.ttf georgia.ttf times.ttf verdana.ttf ariali.ttf couri.ttf georgiaz.ttf trebucbd.ttf verdanaz.ttf arial.ttf cour.ttf impact.ttf trebucbi.ttf webdings.ttf
I very seldom print in any other font other that Time New Roman (times.ttf).
