Very nice.  Can anyone explain me further: why on earth does this work in
Windows?  Or doesn't it?

Could it be related to differences in memory mgmt?  Or just to differently
organized call-chain which manages to avoid data corruption just by a chance?

Sorry for asking to think you about Windows internals -- my head just ran out
of ideas.
