I installed Windows 10 in a virtual machine and tested there and you are indeed
correct. VLC does not output anything in Windows to the terminal which it is
started from.

This is unfortunate but I yield to the compatibility argument. It was a
convenient way to catch errors and resolve problems but I just have to find
another way or revert that commit locally as long as that doesn't interfere
with other things.

My bug is clearly invalid and an admin may close it as such.
