I don't know what you mean by "vanilla" Do you mean regular wine vs "staging" or "development"? If you mean regular wine then I don't know if it is any different from it vs "staging" or "development"
There's vanilla (regular) wine, and wine-staging. wine-staging is vanilla wine with a bunch of changes on top. Please test if the same issue appears with vanilla wine.
After researching the Rift Forums I failed to realize that I had to open up the winecfg and choose for the Windows Version for the applications to be run under. I chose Windows 7 for it. So, all the different .exe files that I use I selected Windows 7 to utilize them and I can now play Rift with absolutely no problems.
Now I know and this has been a ver valuable learning experience for me. Prior to selecting the Windows Version, I was using Default Settings for everything which is why it was screwing up. Now I know better.
