as stated above this is 1.6.2 (stable) I noticed that 1.8 rc1 is unstable. With my lack of knowledge of linux I do not think this would be a wise thing for me to do. I could post the terminal log from 1.6.2 if I knew how to find it.
If this is going to be too much trouble there should be some way to delete this bug.
There is nothing wrong with using development, "unstable" version of wine. It's more wrong to use outdated software.
This bug could be already be fixed in a version of wine that has been build after 1.6.2. Also even the bug report would be valid, and it would be fixed in some version of wine you wouldnt benefit at all because of your wine version you are using. There is no way your 1.6.2 is suddenly going to work if the fix is needed to be done inside wine souce and external overrides don't work.
All the bugs should be reported against development version so they can be fixed against it and all the fixes would land into next stable release.
